A.R.K. Ramos: An Oklahoma Business Celebrating 80 Years of Craftsmanship

October marks 80 years for our legacy-building Oklahoma business.

We’ve had our hands in thousands of projects over the last eight decades: government buildings, universities, memorials — you name it.

We created a pair of bronze markers at the Dallas Love Field Airport commemorating the exact location where President Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in aboard Air Force One. We crafted the chairs that honor the lives lost in the Oklahoma City Murrah Building bombing. It’s no secret that we’ve become the go-to architectural signage partner for organizations around the country.

Our family-owned business has literally memorialized history.

But it isn’t just the large, newsworthy projects that we hold near and dear to our hearts.

We have built incredibly meaningful relationships with so many wonderful individuals and businesses.

Even through superficial changes in our building and branding, and the natural shifts in employees and leadership, our long-standing relationships have been essential to the growth of our business.

Reflecting on 80 Years as a Family-Owned Business

A.R.K. Ramos team celebrates 80 years as a family-owned Oklahoma business creating architectural signage and building lasting customer relationships.

When we look back at 80 years, it’s easy to focus on the finished work. The plaques still hanging on buildings. The letters marking entrances. The memorials that have become permanent parts of their communities. And we’re quite proud of the detailed and high-quality work we continue to produce. But behind every one of those projects is a relationship.

Some of our customers have worked with us for years, returning with new projects because they know what to expect from our team. Architects and specifiers trust us with the details that matter. Contractors and sign companies rely on us to understand the realities of fabrication and installation. Schools, universities, government agencies, businesses, and organizations come to us with projects that often carry meaning far beyond the metal itself.

Those relationships have never been transactional to us. When someone puts their name on a specification or trusts us to manufacture something that will represent their organization for decades, we understand the responsibility that comes with it. Our job is to make their job easier and to produce work everyone involved can be proud to stand behind.

Many of those relationships have also outlasted individual projects. Over the years, we’ve watched customers change roles, firms grow, campuses expand, buildings open, and new generations step into familiar organizations. They’ve watched A.R.K. Ramos change, too.

And there has certainly been change.

The A.R.K. Ramos of 2026 does not look exactly like the company that opened its doors in Oklahoma City in 1946. Our equipment has changed. Our capabilities have expanded. Our catalogs have evolved. The way architects design, contractors build, and customers communicate with us looks very different than it did eight decades ago.

Our leadership has evolved alongside the business.

A.R.K. Ramos was founded in 1946 by Adams, Ramos, and Karrant as an industrial casting foundry. By the 1950s, the company had begun moving toward the architectural signage work that would eventually become our specialty. In 1960, Max Ramos purchased the company in full, securingthe family stewardship that continues today.

Now, another generation is carrying that family-owned responsibility forward. Courtney Fincher-Ramos serves as CEO alongside her brother, Brendan Ramos, our COO. The names on the office doors may have changed over the decades, but each generation has inherited something more important than a title: the responsibility to protect the standards and relationships that allowed a family-owned Oklahoma business to reach 80 years in the first place.

Eight Decades of Change, One Lasting Standard

You don’t stay in business for 80 years by refusing to change.

What began as a family-owned industrial casting foundry has grown into a nationwide architectural signage manufacturer. Over the decades, we’ve expanded our capabilities to include cast plaques and letters, precision-cut lettering and graphics, fabricated reverse channel letters, etched plaques, ADA signage, Perfect Impression™ plaques, and other custom architectural elements.

Technology has changed the way we manufacture. Digital tools have changed the way projects are designed and specified. Our customers’ needs have evolved, and so have the ways we communicate, quote, plan, and produce their work.

Even the way we present ourselves has changed.

As we celebrate our 80th year, we’ve been going through old A.R.K. Ramos catalogs from across the decades. Put them side by side and you can practically watch the years pass. Fonts come and go. Photography styles change. Layouts that once felt modern become unmistakable markers of their era.

But look beyond those surface changes and something familiar starts to appear.

The company kept solving the same kinds of problems for the same kinds of people founded on family-owned principles.

One of our favorite examples is tucked inside those older catalogs. We used to photograph someone from our office standing next to a finished plaque. It wasn’t just for the picture. We wanted the architect or specifier looking through the catalog to understand the plaque’s true scale.

A dimension on a page can tell you that a plaque is 18 or 30 inches wide. A person standing beside it tells you how those dimensions will actually feel in a lobby, at an entrance, or on a monument.

Decades later, that question still matters. Will the finished piece have the right presence in the space?

The tools we use to answer it may be different, but the responsibility behind the answer is not.

That is the balance we’ve learned over 80 years: change what makes the work better, but hold onto the things that made the work worth doing in the first place.

Moving Forward: More than an Oklahoma Business

A.R.K. Ramos leadership represents the next generation of a family-owned Oklahoma business continuing an 80-year legacy of craftsmanship and architectural signage.

We’re proud of our roots.

We’re proud to be a family-owned Oklahoma business.

But, the work we do reaches far beyond that signifier.

Our work lives in universities, government buildings, businesses, memorials, airports, and public spaces across the country. More importantly, so do our relationships. Architects, contractors, sign companies, designers, and organizations nationwide have trusted us to take what matters to them and make it permanent.

That trust is something we intend to carry into our next chapter.

As a family-owned business, we know that legacy is not something you inherit and simply hold onto. You have to keep building it. That means investing in better processes and technology while preserving the craftsmanship, precision, and personal relationships that brought us here in the first place.

80 years gives us plenty to look back on, but we are even more interested in what comes next. There are buildings still being designed, campuses still growing, communities still honoring their histories, and meaningful projects that have yet to reach our foundry.

We hope some of them will come through our doors.

Because after eight decades, we know our work has never really been about making plaques, letters, or signs. It is about helping people put something meaningful and expertly crafted into the world and making sure it stays there.

We’re proud to be an Oklahoma business that reaches every corner of the country. And after 80 years, we’re still here to create work (and relationships) built to last.

Have a project worth making permanent? Be a part of the next 80 years and connect with A.R.K. Ramos to start the conversation.
